Please give a warm welcome to our newest DJ Tony Baker, host of Year 2 Ears! On his two hour shows, Tony will be playing music by year and for his first two shows in October, he’ll be focusing on 2012. If you are like me, you likely have moved on to music from 2026 (which is almost over!) so leave it to Tony to remind you of all the interesting and exciting tunes that came out over the past decade or so.

Year 2 Ear will air new on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 9am and 6pm Pacific time, with replays the following week.

I couldn’t wait to take time off from work, to relax and see my friends. It has been a year since last visiting San Diego. I don’t have a calendar and made the mistake of going the week that begins with Labor Day. Never again. But I did get to see Meagan Masingill and we had a great time outside under the San Diego stars talking and playing music. The heat and humidity from the tropical storm finally broke on Friday and the weekend was pleasant. It was the most humid summer since 1946 in Southern California. But the weather is nice again and thoughts are going towards Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

While I’m opening submission emails I’m being distracted by live footage of Rush. They’re an inspiration to me. Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson are in their early 70’s and have taken back to touring.  While I don’t have the luxury of hiring people to get me into touring shape, I’m trying to get rid of the belly, it’s likely fatty liver, and I’ve been looking for foods and homeopathics that will best deal with clearing out the liver. I’d like to look more into the root causes, which is that the liver creates fat to fuel the fight or flight mechanic of my nervous system and I’m highly sensitive already so my body is always ready to fly. I stopped drinking alcohol, eating after 7pm and I take a bunch of pills and use a berberine patch. But I’ve been feeling exhausted lately and dragging my feet so something more needs to be done.

Yet music is restorative and is one thing that makes me feel better. I was watching a video clip with Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about music. There is musical therapy that aids in muscle movement in people suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, they talk about how we made music and communicated musically even before speech. At the beginning of the full episode they even amusingly say that while math is likely universal, it’s not going to do so well in a Spielberg movie when showing us trying to communicate with aliens. youtube.com/watch?v=TvtNElAmVqU

I also enjoyed a video of a seven year old drummer play to Rush’s Subdivisions and Caleb, who has a very metal logo on the wall behind his drum kit, is my new hero. While the video is from four years ago Caleb put some much-needed joy into my day and hope for the future generations. youtube.com/watch?v=7XZbzweWKnc&list=RD7XZbzweWKnc

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be watching more videos of now 11 year-old Caleb playing drums like a pro. youtube.com/@calebhdrummer4
